Science Festival Steering Committee

Welcome to the 2018 Cavan/Monaghan Science Festival

 A regional Festival celebrating, exploring and promoting the wonders of science, technology, engineering arts and maths (STEAM) in our everyday lives. This year the festival will take place from 10th-24th November across the two counties.

The festival is a Monaghan County Council and Cavan County Council initiative in partnership with Cavan Monaghan ETB, and generously funded by Science Foundation Ireland.

2016 was our inaugural year, with over 145 events and approximately 9000 participants from preschool children to adults attending across the two counties.

We will have some of the best national and international scientists, researchers, speakers, creators and artists to take you on a new road of discovery.

From the science of superheroes to nanotechnology, science behind baking to Crime Scene Investigation, wonders of the cosmos, water for wellness to the mystery of food labelling or try your hand at coding, podcasting, 3D cad, lego storyland, to dealing with serious topics such as cancer, HPV, autism and dementia. We hope you enjoy our festival of discovery, learning and fun!

Booking Essential

We have a wide selection of events here in Co. Cavan. Our science festival events were a great success last year. Places are limited so, make sure you book a place in the events you are interested in.  We use Eventbrite Ticket booking system which will require that you register your email address in order that receive the Electronic ticket. If you do not have an email address or you would prefer not to register, come down to your local Library and we will be able to assist you get a ticket.

How to use this site

All events are primarily categorised by Location, You have chosen the Co Cavan Location. On the Right hand side of the screen you can click a town name that will show only events in that town. We have also added the ability to qualify your search by Subject Matter, for instance,  we have many events that can be referred to be about "Health" in subject matter. If you are browsing any health event,  all health events will be shown when you click the button "Health" below the ticket. This search result will show all "Health" related events in both counties Cavan and Monaghan

Top Tips for Maths

7pm - Ballyjamesduff Adult & Community Education Centre, Cavan

Top tips for maths is aimed to help parents of school going children get to grips with some recurring mathematical problems and discuss how best to access help with particular issues.

Science of Birdwatching

7pm - Johnston Central Library, Cavan

BirdWatch Ireland are involved in many conservation projects which aim to protect Ireland’s birds and their habitats.

Exploring Careers in STEAM for parents and Students

7pm – Bailieboro Library

This information session will allow learners/potential students to explore careers in the science field. Guidance counsellors will give a broad overview

Science in your area
