The All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO) is a contest in which school students develop their own strategies for solving problems in fascinating languages from around the globe.
No prior knowledge of linguistics or a second language is required, as even the hardest problems require only logical ability, patient work, and a willingness to think around corners. The workshop involves working through puzzles each in a different language which should be unfamiliar to you. By using your logic and reasoning you will be able to decode the puzzles and discover the meaning of sentences written in languages like Hawaiian, Armenian and Nahuatl (Aztec). The workshop is facilitated by the ADAPT centre, Trinity college.
